So Sunday morning I get off work at about 12:20 am after all the movies are finished (I'm a projectionist) I walk outside to my car and see that there are like 6 people and police gathered around. Turns out some drunk driver ran right into it, tried to reverse and my car was stuck to his car, and ran into it again and sped off. All the people around the car saw the whole thing, three were employees at the theatre and two were customers coming out of their movie. Another guy across the street saw the guy and went after the guys truck. Turns out he found it, positively id'd the driver and he was arrested and the drivers truck was towed.

I was EXTREMELY lucky with all the people that saw the whole thing and especially went after the guy and caught him and id'd him to the police. I was very humbled by this experience these people total strangers decided to stick around for an hour and give statements and their names and everything I mean there truly are some good people left in the world. I was also very sad I take alot of car of my car (park really far for no door dings, always be on time for maintenence etc) and then some guy just ruins it all by hitting it. Sigh, at least I wasn't in the car. Police said everything should be ok if he has insurance with the positive id's and the witnesses, we will see..

Sucks about your car, but good to hear about the support. It's surprising these days. Most of the time, it seems like people are too busy to care about anybody else.

be lucky it was your car and not you. 2 weeks ago my uncle got hit by a drunk driver when he was crossing the street. he has both legs broken and a broken shoulder. luckily he didnt hit his head... he's been in the hospital since and wont be doing anything anytime soon. :(

kinda similar thing happened to me. i was in the movies (watching, not working) and came out and there was a guy next to my car and my whole passenger door had been backed into.

apparently, it was a couple of kids who sucked at driving and accidentally rammed me...BUT, since they were punks, they tried to take off....but people saw them AND there were 2 cops outside the theater who HEARD the crash and chased after them....so they gave up and since they didn't have too much of a pursuit the officers didn't arrest them.....BUT, they were totally going off on the driver and his friends (and his brother). kid was 16.

they made his friend wait by my car outside (movie was about 2 hours long....i think it happened right after i went in).

i went back into theater, met a cop, and met the punk kid. he was driving this POS 80's honda that was his mom's car and he had ran into my brand new Audi. needless to say, i was beyond pissed. luckily, kid was almost in tears.

got insurance info, but had to wait THREE MONTHS before i could get into a good local bodyshop. ended up costing insurance almost 2 thousand dollars to fix it....but it looks like new now

thankfully they caught him...my insurance wouldv'e gone through the roof if i didn't find out who he was.

hope that kid learned his lesson hard.

edit: note, no one was actually drunk, but it's kinda a similar story. if you want a really similar story, well, my parents got rear ended by a drunk driver and their car was totaled and insurance only gave us blue book value which of course was way less than it was worth.....but they did catch the guy and he ended up going to jail which is the only good part of the story. he had actually gotten into 6 accidents before his truck stopped running....

My car was scratched up last week on the bumper. Only problem is I never found the person who did it. :|

It will probably cost me a few hundred bucks to have the bumper repainted.

This makes that incident look like nothing!

Why do they call it a "hit and run" anyway? Shouldn't the proper terminology by "hit and drive"?

That sucks. My parents had a similar situation happen to them a few years ago. Their street was under construction, so everyone had to park on a sidestreet. There were bumper to bumper parked cars for about 6 blocks, on both sides of a narrow 2 way street. Anyways, in the middle of the night, some drunk ass decided to play bumper cars all the way down the street. All in all, I heard he damaged about 30 cars, including my father's. Luckily he made such a racket that several people came out of their homes and actually pulled him out of his car and held him down until the cops came. Wish I had been there to see that!
