2009 335i E90 LCI.

This is actually my second bumper. I got rear ended last year. My original bumper was in perfect condition with no scratches so I figured I might as well upgrade to an M-Tech bumper so I paid the difference out of pocket for this new one. Now this one gets messed up. I don't know if insurance will pay for aftermarket parts. Also, I am stuck having to pay the $500 deductible.

Uh, you're crazy to pay $500 deductive and get your insurance rate increased. Bumper cover costs less than that. Paint will be a bit extra. Get a total quote for the repairs, that trunk may be more expensive though.

Call and ask first if anything will happen to your premium if you file a comprehensive claim.

But the first thing you really should have done, which I assume you already did, is file a police report of the hit and run, and ask them to investigate.

That repair is WAY more than $500. Not just a little, way. I had a bumper (and his bumper plus trunk are damaged, not to mention whatever happened on the front) replaced on a maxima and it was $900.

If your actual bumper is not damaged (and that does not look damaged), most bumper covers (the entire plastic piece you see with dents in it) are not more than $300-$500. Painting it will costs $300 or so at most.

But the trunk is damaged too.

$500 deductible + how much increase per year? It could be more costly in a year's increase in premium than to pay out of pocket. It comes down to the numbers and what the insurance and the shop gives as estimates.

Then $500+$300 comes close to my $900.

I've had the bumper replaced before. It cost $1250 for a standard bumper. This is an upgraded bumper which costs about $900 unpainted. The left taillight is also broken. It's hard to see in the pics. The interior of the trunk is bent and won't close without slamming it and the latch doesn't work. The trunk is bent. The front bumper also has a crease in it from being pushed into the car in front. My ex wife got rear ended in our MDX and it looked like a relatively minor bumper replacement but we later found we needed to get our exhaust replaced because it was smashed and rattled. I don't want to not report it and find out I have to pay $1500 to fix the exhaust.

I need to see what insurance can do about finding the person who hit me. Two people left notes on my car including one who left her number telling me she chased the truck down. She couldn't get the plate number but she saw the name of the trucking company and got their phone number. The cops took all of the info down.

Fvcking WIN. Please God update this thread if the cops find out who did it and be sure you give this woman something for her effort.

This

Glad to see you have some respectable people near you.

Yes. Definitely. I spoke with her for about 15 mins and she told me she was so pissed off at the guy for taking off after smashing my car that she followed as fas as she could while calling 911 but the guy took off and the police never arrived. She did get a good look at the driver and the truck.

The police were very cool too. They asked me if I had a gun. I told them no. They said good bc if it were them, they would have shot the guy. One of them has a 325xi so he felt for me.

I guess it is better off this way than last time when I got rear ended with a friend and my 2 kids in the car.

Actually, this was in Brooklyn. I live in NJ. The people in that area drive like idiots. While I was waiting for the cops, I could see why my parked car got rear ended.

Sorry to hear it. And thank God for the woman that chased the truck down and gave you the info. People like that sort of offset people like the douche bag that hit you in the first place... sort of. Now we just need more people like her in the world. ;)

Are you married? Is she cute? If you answered no to the first and yes to the second, you know what to do. :D

That's awesome, let us know if they can track the guy down.

I'd bet that is well over $1500 worth of damage.

Some fuck hit my car the other day too. Left a nice ding in the passenger side door with a little scuff mark on it too. The mirror was pushed in but it folds so it wasn't broken.

I tried calling the company "Safeway" which the eyewitnesses said hit my car and they denied everything. They said none of their drivers got into an accident yesterday. Figures...

This will really drive up the cost of your repair. My car suffered very similar damage to yours. I would say mine was a little worse, but it also needed a new bumper assembly, cover, tail light, trunk lid, and trunk straightened, and paint of course. The insurance paid me ~$6,000! I got it all fixed for $5,000.

I would let the police investigate that. Provided they don't ditch the truck some how (which would be destroying / hiding evidence in an investigation), they should be able to prove whether or not one of the vehicles was recently damaged.

Go to their address and look at the trucks. Looking at your bumper you can see 3 large parts that were hit inward. I be willing to bet there will be at least 1 truck with soemthing on the front that fits and maybe some paint on it. If you see it call the police while there and have them come out. Also take pics for your insurance company so they can also look into it.

Sometimes hit and run is covered by uninsured part of your policy and you may not have to pay out anything.
