History paper.

So

Lifer
I'm writing a brief paper for a history class, (yes, due tomorrow :shifty;[/b]) and I insticitvely keep putting things in past tense but my years of paper writing keeps yelling "present tense!" from the back of my brain...

AT, what's the consensus?

The important thing is to be consistent. Always use one or the other. Since it most likely concerns the past, perhaps past tense would be more appropriate.

Avoid passive voice. Adverbs weaken your writing. Adverbs really totally weaken your writing, but not as much as run on sentences, or excessive comma usage.
