History of AT Forums?

What happened prior to 10/9/1999? Based on the number of Lifers that joined on that date, I assume that another forum system was in place prior to October 1999.

If so, did the first AT forums start about the same time Anandtech came online?

The forums were around prior to that, I think they were using UBB or VBB.. can't remember.

I was over on AGN3D before I came here.

in 99 they went to fusetalk, before that it was on geocities as a BB IIRC

No, the forums were never on geocities, anand moved off that quickly if i recall, and pair was the host of choice. then the whole hitachi/buy.com fiasco brought content to the forums 🙂

of course, my memory could be off... but damn.. so long ago.

Was that the 19" CRT hot deal with a typo error and Buy.com never honored the price, even though they billed a lot of people?

yep. i thought some ppl got honored? i dunno, all I remember from those days are the tons of $10 of $10 coupons and such 🙂

thems were the days m'boy. oh yeah, the WMC (Whiney Monitor Cheapos or something like that) coupons were a plenty and many a person helped drive value america into the dirt, yes, yes. i don't really remember what they were using before now, just remember i had to reregister.

yep. i thought some ppl got honored? i dunno, all I remember from those days are the tons of $10 of $10 coupons and such 🙂

some people got something. i believe there was a class action suit and people had to sign an NDA.

Yes, there was an Old Anandtech forums. Lots of crazy hijinks there, but mostly people arguing about Riva TNT vs. Voodoo 2.

Yea, the old forums. UBB or something like that? Funny how I can't even remember what those forums looked like now.

I remember when I first stumbled on Anandtech when it was on Geocities, been coming to the site ever since. Funny thing is, it was the site that first brought me to Anandtech, but for the past few years I rarely use the site, only the forums.
