History class gone bad

Today was the first day of Survey of Medieval History II. The teacher starts class by discussing the prominent religions of the period, and promptly calls Jesus, aka Joshua, a bastard. His words exactly "Jesus is a bastard, and so some people of the Medieval era chose not to follow the Christian religion." This starts the largest flamefest in the history of the world. ATOT would be afraid of the comments being slung back and forth. Utter chaos erupted at that comment, the class immediately took sides, and I was afraid fists were going to start flying. I'm off in a corner just laughing at the ensuing chaos, even the professor is partaking in the flaming. This goes on for about 10 minutes, and when I see it isn't going to die down, I start to leave, only to be hit in the back of the head by a history book and called a Jesus Freak. Ah, what a lovely first day of class.

What school are you attending?

I'm at Tennessee Tech, a TN state school, while I finish earning my money to attend Purdue this coming fall. I hate it with a passion.

Some people need to look up the definition of "bastard". It's a child born out of wedlock, so Jesus really was a bastard.

smartest person in this thread

LOL! Man I wish I was going to that school. College here is so boring. Hell I'm in IT Class right now.

I thought he was conceived out of wedlock. But Mary and Joseph later married, before the birth ... it has been a decade since I heard the story, though.

Jesus = Joshua?

Maybe he means Yeshua.

Joshua is a transliteration of Yeshua 🙂 Yeshua is his true name, however. Yeshua of course being the Hebrew name for "Salvation" which is what the Christ child was named. Therefore his name was Yeshua 🙂

While that may be true, the teacher said it in a derogatory manner. Although, even if he didn't, the whole class probably would have erupted any way.
