i've had to refill the brake fluid twice in 6 months so they replaced the master brake cylinder even though they couldn't find any leaks (that was on friday).

today, i hear a hissing sound on the driver's side, like an air leak. i looked under the hood but couldn't find anything.. any ideas? brakes seem to be working ok, except they are a lot harder to push down now with the car off (i have to push the brake to get the car to start).

It's probably a loose vacuum line or a cracked hose.

Yep. Inspect the vacuum line running from your brake booster, which is a dinner plate sized thing right behind your master cylinder.
