Hiss on New LCD TV (Sony Bravia)

Hi. I just bought a new Sony Bravia 32 inch M4000. Thing looks great. But there is a low (but noticeable) hiss coming from the speakers. It only occurs when the speakers are on, i.e. if I go to 0 on the speakers the hiss goes away. But it comes back when I go to 1 or when I am watching tv. It's not the loudest thing ever but I have really good hearing so I definitely notice it. Is there anything in the sound settings I can do to fix this? Could it be a bad tv? Thanks!

It sounds defective then. There is nothing in the audio settings that would cause this. Unless you are playing it at a really load level, I would return it.

If it is hissing, it could be indicative of a power problem or ground loop. Are you using a surge protector or anything like that?

Nope. I guess I should try a surge and see?

What are you using for inputs and are they properly grounded?

If you're using coax or an outdoor antenna it may not be grounded correctly.

Disconnect the cable and turn on the TV -- if the hiss goes away, it is the cable not grounded properly. (Not uncommon in homes that had cable added after they were built)
If that doesn't do it, grab an extension cord and run your TV power to another circuit (I.e. this may be in another room or just across the room) -- if the hiss goes away, something on your current circuit isn't grounded.

Since you can hear it through every input, it sounds like a cable problem. If this hiss persists I'd exchange for another one.
