The stupid fuck canadian government does that. In the western parts of the country, stuff in federal government offices is always english and french, and you need to be bilingual in english and french to work there. You can tell how retarded this is by looking at signs put up by private businesses. While the government has french as the secondary language, banks will often have mandarin Chinese. Some places also have Polish or Ukrainian as the secondary language on their business signs. The prairie region has probably 100x as many Ukrainians and Poles as it has French, but the government insists French is important.

I find it very irritating that the local Target stores here now have signs inside both prominently in English and Spanish.

You find it irritating that a country made up of immigrants doesn't feel the need to conform to one single language?

I find it irritating I have to share a country with xenophobes.

This.
Second.

It's not racist, it's not bigoted, it's practical.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Hispanics get very offended if you look Hispanic and don't speak Spanish. I think it's ridiculous. They don't bother to learn the language but expect everyone to cater towards them. If you live in a country, you might want to learn the primary language there. My brother moved to Japan three years ago and didn't expect to not have to learn Japanese even though so many people speak English over there.

Sadly, this is very utopian. People immigrate here from all over the planet, but they sure as hell don't like our country, and they definitely don't call themselves Americans. I would be very proud of an immigrant moving here and calling themselves American.

It seems sometimes "American" is treated as a race rather than a way of life.

Are you sure you really want to quote a man who was a supporter of eugenics and the idea of "forced sterilization of the sick, unemployed, poor, criminals, prostitutes, and the disabled." ?

How about you answer in your own words next time, it means a lot more.

I don't understand it why some mexicans have such a hard time learning english. I'm filipino, and when my parents immigrated here back in the '70's, they made a point of only speaking English to us. They wanted us to "fit" in. I do regret that they didn't teach us tagalog though.
