Never fails; a few days after I buy something there is a better deal on it.....

Oh Newegg, why do you taunt me so?

Yeah, their policies say pretty explicitly that they don't do price adjustments, but if you call customer service and be super polite, they seem to be willing to credit you.

Worked for me, anyway. 🙂

Sounds like an excellent idea... Think they would mind that it's not the same manufacturer? Asus ... HIS... close, right? LOL

Is there any real difference between the HIS and MSI cards?

I was thinking of sticking this inside of a Shuttle P2 Chassis SP35P2V2 Intel Socket Aluminum Black Barebone System. It only has a 400 Watt ATX mini PSU though. Anyone know if this will be a problem?

You might be pushing thigs a bit at 400w.... Spec says

?500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX? technology in dual mode)?

To each their own and $90 is nothing to sneeze at... but I'm wondering where you got the 10fps? From what I have seen on THW it all depends on the game and resolution.

I'm gaming at 1900x1200 where the 4870 is a better fit and the 1G of ram should come in handy. Additionally, I think this model is a better option for future X-Fire potential.

its more than 10fps esspecially at 1920x1200...

On most 1900x1200 benchmarks at TH, the 4850 appears to be within 10fps of the 4870. Do a side by side comparison and you'll see the scores don't vary too much. I don't think the 4870 is worth $90 more, although I'd still say this is a good deal

(although I don't know where it is $90 cheaper, linky?)

Okay so I had a little time on my hands and did a little research on THW for my own satisfaction. Now that its done, I figured someone else may find it useful so I'll share.

550.40 / 485.40
Sum of FPS Benchmarks 1920x1200 AA
467.80 / 393.70

Again, this was compiled for my own benefit/education. Make of it whatever you want. For me, any gain of 3-5 fps at 60fps and above is not worth sweating but a gain of 3-5 fps at 30fps can make a difference.

Hope someone finds this useful. :gift:

So as eeeze was saying, its alot more money for only ~10fps difference. Yes its 28% better but that only 4fps! no one is going to be able to tell a 4fps difference.

Doesnt sound worth it to me.

Thanks for the research though!

^ I doubt that my misery will make you feel any better but, just in case it does, I bit at $200 - so I paid an extra $15 for a extra week of ownership 🙁
