HIS Excalibur X800 XT Platinum!

I received and installed my new HIS Excalibur X800 XT Platinum today from SuperPC Mart. Its' really cool! Runs Halo at 1024x768 with everything on "High" at 103.575 FPS. With everything turned off and at "low" texture quality the card runs 1024x768 at 122.175 FPS.

I'm really happy with this card - it was a tough choice between the 6800 Ultra (also very difficult to obtain) and the HIS card. I like the 6800 card because it supports PixelShader 3.0, but with the exception of a few cards in the wolrd application such asdin the end it was the IceQ II cooling solution that sold me on the HIS card.

Ok, what are you doing running Halo at 1024x768 on a card like that? The whole point of that card is to crank things up. 😀

Nice card.
You're not kidding. Look at the rest of his system. FX53... Aries, you need to jump that res. up to at least 1280x1024.

No pun intended....

actually it was a mere 550$. they had a preorder deal going on a while back that finially came though. superpc mart is one of the few places that hasn't been gouging the hell out of prices.

shady06,

The Snowman is correct! I got it online from SuperPC Mart.com for $550.00 plus tax and shipping to me in Los Angeles (thats' $603.98 to be exact). Big chunk of change but I HAD to have the IceQ II cooling solution and the 16 pipelines. You can get the Excalibur X800 Pro IceQ II for $460.00, although SuperPC Mart is now out of stock on them as well as the XT version. I would call them and see what they're timeframe is if you're interested at all. I placed my original order on 8/2 so I only had to wait about 6 weeks. They originally had 100 XTs' on order, with purchasing priority given on a first-come, first served basis. Then when the cards come in, SuperPC Mart will email you to confirm that you still want it.

darkswordsman17 & Megatomic,

I run at 1024x768 in multi-player mode just to try to maintain an edge, or EVEN TRY TO LEVEL THE FIELD against all the cheaters and other hackers online. People say that there are no Halo cheats which means that those people are: idiots, morons, cheaters, and/or liars - possibly all of them. I've played against guys who were INVULNERABLE. We're talking about when me and a teamamte can literally plaster a guy with plasma grenades and he just stands there looking at us as they go off, not even shooting at us. This can go on forever.

Or when you've got 100% health and full shields and you get killed with 2 pistol shots FROM 150+ YARDS AWAY WHILE YOU BOTH YOU AND THE BAD GUY ARE RUNNING AND JUMPING SIDE TO SIDE. There are awesome players out there, BUT NO ONE CAN KILL WITH 2 PISTOL SHOTS FROM THAT RANGE WITHOUT SOMETHING LIKE QUAD DAMAGE AND AIMBOT.

Or, when I hit someone with a a grenade AND A DIRECT ROCKET HIT (no splashing) and he still takes a bunch more close-range shotgun blasts to get him/her. Bear in mind that we ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT LAG. We are talking about when your sight is RED, so you know the badguy is really there where you are shooting.

The list goes on and on but I have already done too much of that...

INGlewood78,

No sh%^$t about that "mere" price of $550.00! Like I said a big chunk of change!

TO ALL, BTW, the card runs 1280x1024 (everything maxed) at 84.115 FPS and 800X600 AT 131.416 FPS.

See you guys on the net' and shoot straight!

Barring performance and anti-cheating tactics, how does Halo look and feel at 1280x1024? It's gotta be purty... 😛 Can you get us some screenshots?

Megatomic,

Running 1280x1024 is very smooth and pretty, but since I'm used to running at 1024x768 when I run 1280x1024 it just seems a little slow. Badguys move really fast at 1024x768 so its' better practice too. With my old 9800 Pro 256MB I could play at Legendary quite well, but with the X800 XT I die alot faster. I will have to step-up my game now!

I think screenshots would look the same as on my old card (ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB) but if you can tell me how to capture a screenshot I would either email some to you, or if its permitted on the forum I could post some here.

I know there are free trial versions of screenshot capture utilities, but from what I've seen you have to give them your email address to get it. I hate that sh@$t! I get literally 100 emails a day (lots of offers I'm not interested in) between my work and personal email account.

Is there a screenshot capture utility built into Windows 2000 Pro? Obviously, I would need to be able to capture high-res screenshots. I just don't want to have to provide my email addresss to download the program.

Do you know where I can download a no-frills, truly FREE, no email necessary screenshot capture utility? If so, please post it here and I will download and install it and provide some screenshots at 1280x1024. They really look impressive. The granite mountains and rocks look very realistic, even when you're standing on them looking down at your feet. The textures on the vehicles look awesome too. And lets' not forget the badguys!

I agree with you about the Halo cheaters.

I still think that playing at a higher resolution would be a more enjoyable experience. At the least, do you play single player games in high res.? I'll have to play it on a lower res and see how it goes. Of course now that I have a 2001FP I really doubt I'll stick with it.

You have to go into the command code of the game (I forget how) and set it so that you can do captures. Then in game you just press like F10 or something. I'll see if I can't figure out how to get it setup.

The speed thing is just because 1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution and everything gets squished vertically when you stretch that to fill a 4:3 screen; so it would make it look like the bad guys traveling across the screen are moving slower. You should try 1280x960, being a 4:3 aspect ratio it should work just the same as 1024x768 albeit look nicer as it uses more pixels.

darkswordsman17,

I completely agree with you on high-res gaming improving the playing experience. That is very true. I do play at 1280x1024 in single-player because the game just looks so terrific. Plus, at Legendary level its' really tough for me now (even at 1280x1024). Those badguys just move and shoot so much faster!

If you can figure-out how to set up the screenshots within the game code and post it here I can do that.
