HIS 4870 1gb vs. Sapphire 4870 1gb?

Which one would you pick since their basically the same price?

Sapphire 4870 1gb

HIS 4870 1gb

I have the Sapphire. Mine runs extremely hot. Can't say much about the HIS though because I've never touched a HIS card

How is HIS warranty compared to Sapphire? I have the sapphire card in my tri-fire setup and I love it, but Sapphire does charge a fee to RMA. Something worth considering.

My sapphire does run nice and cool with the fan fixed at 30%

i wouldn't touch that HIS card with a 10 foot pole. I usually like their cards but that fan looks like a joke. You lose the exhaust function, and it just looks incompetent.

I have the same one and mine isnt so hot, just had to force a higher fan speed (which is the case with most 4870's). 30% and mine runs nice and cool, even with a 4870X2 right above it.

I think both sapphire and HIS have a two year warranty period now.As for the cooler being a joke it keeps my HIS 4830 overclocked at 640 mhz at 56c under full load and that is a bigger cooler they put on that card

I prefer the reference design to these generic designs. Exhausting heat outside the case should be a minimum standard that people accept for cards of this class. I have the Sapphire 4870 512 that uses a reference design. It only runs hot if you let the fan run on automatic adjustment. It's very very quiet at this setting. If the temps are too hot for you, you can always manually raise the fan speed. The card runs very cool at higher fan speeds.

I have the Sapphire and it is great. Runs cool with the fan at 40% and I can't hear it. You barely hear it at 50%. At 60% you can hear it above case fans.
Not at all annoying though and its still much better than the stock cooler.

The Sapphire one doesn't exactly blow it out the back. It blows down through the fins towards the pcb, so some will exhaust out the back and some will exhaust out everywhere else. It's very much like the coolers on the 7900 GTXs, so it should be good.

I would probably pick the HIS though for how open it is (less area for dust to accumulate) and due to the fact that it looks lighter.

Either one should do well.

Avoid the HIS card at all costs.

The cooler on it is absolute garbage, and is horribly underpowered for cooling the original reference 3-phase (very hot) design. Only the original stock dual-slot exhausting cooler is recommended for this PCB design...

I don't like the HIS cooler either. It looks like it has a very small heat exchange surface and it probably isn't able to cope with the GPU heat output of the card. And also, not a lot of air will pass over the heatsink from the power circuitry, so that will probably heat up too.

Go for the sapphire, it just looks much better. I have a HIS 4830 and while the cooling isn't too bad, it only has a 2pin fan, so no adjusting the fan speed. I expect that the 4870 will be the same also. fifteen dollars difference after rebate is worth it if you are getting a better card and more accessories

I just recently purchased the Sapphire card and it doesnt run hot at all. At idle the fan sits at about 30% and its barely audible, temps are in the mid 50s. While gaming it does get louder, but nothing incredibly terrible and temps sit in the low 70s. I had a single slot reference HD4850 and it was much louder and temps were higher too.


EDIT: If you decide to get the Sapphire card and want the free Stalker game you have to select the combo option, furthermore my copy of the game installed fine but when I tried to play it from the disk it kept saying insert the disk. To circumvent this I had to use a crack file.
