I received this card a few days ago and went ahead with a Bios flash, it seems like it was successful based off of some benchmark comparisons [which was a surprise considering its nonref, 1gb and recently purchased]. All in all games are about 5-10% faster fps wise, but GPUz still reports the card as having 1408 shaders instead of the 1500 or so shaders, same with Trixx.

Are they reporting 1408 since they are just reading the vendor ID [6950] or what ? Not a huge deal overall since the performance is better but seeing a screen validating it would be nice.

Don't you ,mean HIS 2gb 6950? Because, otherwise, it's not a reference model, and so you can't flash it.

Whether it's reference or not has nothing to do with the GPU being able to run unlocked. The fact that it reports 1408 shaders though makes me wonder about the success. Are the clocks still at original spec?

Nope, I had no luck with it. And to add salt to it not working, my results were bad from the get go. Sapphire trixx has a nasty habit of not applying overclocked settings on bootup at times [my version atleast], and thats what happened when I thought the unlock worked the first time. So in a nutshell, I was comparing OC results to non OC results. Shaders were always the same [doh].

I think my card is laser etched, it has a BIOS switch on it and everything so it should work, but the laser etch is preventing it on the core level.

As far as 2GB models go, just backup your bios with GPUz and then use RBE to mod it to unlock the shaders...Try it out and see if your lucky. 2GB models have the best chance of success so I would be more surprised if it doesn't work than if it did.

Nice, have fun with overclocking your cards they can really go far compared to some of the older cards AMD released. I had my 6950 at 1000 for a while but the heat output got to high for the stock heatsink to handle [gonna replace it someday :)]. Besides the heat, 1ghz was stable at 1.2V. Im running it at 900 mhz now with just a slight voltage increase [1.125].
