Hiring Movers

So before you call me a lazy @$$, I am only posting this because my girlfriend is very against moving all our stuff AGAIN...i say again because this will be our 6th move in 5 years! Granted all of them are local moves (college students, moving dorms, to an apartment, different apt, etc)....basically she is fed up with moving all the crap we have.

That being said, we have a bedroom full of furniture to be moved (1 bed, a tv stand, tv, 2 desks, etc), and a living room and kitchen full of stuff (2 couches, 1 chair, tv stand, tv, kitchen table, coffee table, various other boxes of crap). We are moving the above stuff about 20 miles away.

Basically I'm just looking to get a ballpark figure of how much it would cost. I am presuming it is going to be a lot of money (more than we can afford), but if I can get an estimate, it would be nice to show her 🙂

I did yesterday, and only one has gotten back to me, but htey only give me what hourly rate they charge...and I have no idea how many hours it would take to do it, plus they said there are "other charges" that may apply. I'm just lookin to see the final cost if any of you have moved recently.

You've moved 6 times in 5 years so you must have some idea how long it would take.

I would guess two hours to load, same to unload, plus the driving time from their business to the pickup point, to the new place, and back to their business location. Assuming you have everything boxed up and ready to go.

Don't feel bad about hiring movers -- that's what I did when my gf and I moved in March. It was much faster and much less stressful than any other move. I think it cost ~500 total for all of our stuff (my gf and I moved from two seperate apartments into a house and she had a *ton* of furniture).

just get uhaul and a bunch of friends to help. usually you just have to buy them taco bell or mcdonalds and they'll help.

I just got back from College Station Texas getting the wheels moving on getting my mom moved up here to colorado. I had Allied Van Lines come and do an estimate for packing EVERYTHING in her house (4 bedroom, 2 bath, shed full of yard stuff and some stuff in the attic) also i had them include putting her 1998 Buick LeSaber on the van. The quote was much less than i was expecting. the whole thing was quoted for $6,700 bucks.

Wow! That's some cheap friendage labor!

the last time i hired a mover, it cost us under 200 bucks. they charged by the hour. i hired starving students.

no weight charges or any crap like that. to really facilitate the move, have EVERYTHING packed up when they come to move you. that way it takes a LOT less time. all you have to do is point them towards boxes which they'll move out towards the elevator and then they'll come back for furniture. our move was pretty local, and they had a two hour minimum. they also doubled the driving time but it only took ten mins to drive there.

I want to hire movers if I had the money, 7th move in 9years. All my furniture is going to my sister who just moved into an apartment and I'm moving to Europe. When I come back, it's going to be all about fully furnished apartments.
