Hi folks

Looking to replace my MESH stock 360w PSU with something a bit better (prior to adding more memory and overclocking my new X800pro). Was thinking about a Hiper HPU-4M480 as it appears fairly well specified and reasonably priced.

A couple of questions though.

1) Will it fit an older ATX case? (MESH PC arround 18 months old). I've looked at the manufacturers WEB site and they don't specifically state that.

2) I see that it only has a fan on the underside and that the sides are a sort of mesh grill. Isn't this likely to help heat the inside of the PC case up? IE. the air isn't just drawn in and exhausted out the back of the PSU.

Thanks...

PS. See http://hi-techreviews.com/reviews/Hiperpower/P3.htm

Thanks for the reply.

Doesn't look good eh! Found the thread from Tomshardware.

Mind you.... the comments are pretty much weighted for and against.

O'well... back to PSU hunting then I suppose.

Would you be willing to enlighten me on your preference (IE. need something in the region of a 450w).

You need to state your budget and whether you prefer to go all out and don't care about the noise or would like something quieter...

Thanks for the reply.

Budget arround £70 (70 UK pounds). Not too worried about noise, as long as it's not like a vacumn cleaner (I've seen levels of about 20db mentioned as being reasonable).

Having tried a couple of programs to indicate power requirements of your system, around a 450w should be ok. Not too worried if it's got 2 +12v connections, as mines an older ATX case (18 months old).

Should mention I'm in the UK. So some of the makes in the USA aint available over here.

I had thought about the Hiper, but that seems to get the thumbs down by a fair few people / tests (though some people like em). The other was a Tagan 480w.

Must admit I'm getting cross eyed from reading reviews. One minute I think "that's it... found the right one" and then I stumble on review that slags it.

Suppose I'll just have to make a decission and order one.
