I doubt that will work, I think during that war there was space travel already. Also the robots were to enslave humanity not really destroy it. AFAIK

NO the machines want to destroy humanity. In the matrix they want to enslave them. Btw does anyone else like how they never bothered to explain anything about how the machines first decided to kill the humans.

Ummm no, if you watch the animatrix then you would see the machines TRY to coexist with humans. Humans decided they would not coexist with machines so the machines enslaved the humans.

That is not what happened in the terminator series.
