Sorry, I didn't understand "Who are the Kansas City Royals playing on August 3rd"

Would you like me to show you a picture of a stallion? LMAO

Here is what I get when I ask that question (1st try):

This is way better than what google voice search shows as well. They make you have to click over to a website to see who they actually play.

It is asking about the picture again because its based on context. Something google voice search doesn't do at all. How many times do you ask your voice search a series of random questions rapid fire that have nothing to do with each other?

Didn't Apple just add that functionality for the next version of iOS though? If you're not using the developer preview I'm not sure if Siri will give you results like that for sports on the current version of iOS.

Also, I'm not sure from the video if it just didn't understand her, or if it didn't know how to answer her question.

yea the new version improves it a lot

however why did it default to searching for stallion when it didn't know what she was asking? that seemed very odd/funy

Because Siri is conversational? When you ask a human something they don't know, you'll get a funny answer back sometimes.

You: Siri, who are the Kansas City Royals playing on August 3rd?
Siri: All you want to talk about is sports. Let's talk about some of my interests for a change.
You: Ok Siri, what's on your mind?
Siri: I feel like going shopping. The nearest Apple Store is 1.5 miles away, would you like me to navigate us there?

Uh oh, cheezy321 found a Siri thread.

Why not? I am showing them making a stupid comparison. Its also stupid for them to ask about pictures. They obviously know that siri wont show pictures on the results. Just like google voice actions wont do geo fenced reminders. Unsurprisingly that is omitted from the video.

Also I posted the iOS 6 version of the response because it is obviously much better than what google voice actions shows. Her last question also asks siri what is better, iOS 6 or jelly bean. Sounds like she is insinuating that they are doing this comparison with iOS 6. Not the truth.

I am not saying Siri is the best. Google voice actions does a lot of things way better. Specifically when it comes to basic questions and search queries involving pictures. There are things that siri does better as well. Geo-fenced reminders and 'Who are the royals playing on August 3rd' are some of those things.

Please forgive them for using the current shipping version of iOS, not a developer preview.

Please forgive me for comparing an iOS version that is probably in the hands of more people than JB currently is.

LOL.

True story.

But honestly, cheezy's screenshot is nice. iOS gives you a lot of information at once about sports, whereas Google gives you the bare minimum. When asked Kobe Bryant's height, both devices got it, but the iDevice also returned some of his stats along with the card. As you can tell that's far more useful. Great, Google can crawl and grab that info, but Siri gives you a more complete answer

Despite Cheezy using an unreleased OS, and a developer preview at that, Youtube is filled with videos of Google Now making Siri look second rate.

Btw, its Google Now, not Google Voice Actions. Voice Actions was the old voice interaction, that deputed back in the Eclair/Froyo days in 2009. Google Now is the newer, much more robust, effective version in JellyBean. And since its more conversational, addresses the number 1 complaint people had with VA, having to memorize robot commands.

It's more useless. If I ask for his height, and not his stats, I'd rather get his height in a large, easy to read format. Siri gives you a little card with tiny print about the one thing you asked for and a lot of things you didn't.

WRONG.

Siri not only SAYS the answer, and displays the answer in a one line answer, it throws out the box of additional info.

I'd say here Siri does a better job. It's an interactive countdown. The user asked for a timer, not an alarm clock. The Google Now achievement is no different than asking voice Search today to "wake me up in 10 minutes." No improvement.

more useful answer from Siri once again.

Indeed, if you search YouTube for "Siri Google" you get video after video of people running into the same conclusion. Some use iOS 6, some use iOS 5.1.1, but they all make Siri look slow, confused...generally inelegant.

Where Google Now absolutely embarrasses Siri is with any query relating to geographical location or directions. Google Maps (and Navigation) for Android is unmatched by anything on any version of iOS (save Google Maps on Safari).

Even speaktoit is better than siri. Funny video.

Um Speaktoit SUCKS, almost as badly as Alex and all the other Siri wanna be's on the market. I'm not saying Siri's perfect, or even great but it works better than anything out there. And no the Google Now for JB doesn't matter. As Cheez put it there are more people on iOS 6 than JB, so if anything it's still a > for Siri because more people have access to it. By the time JB has an even 5% adoption rate iOS 6 will be in full swing. And video for video the new Siri is worlds better than the old one. So Google Now won't have this OMG huge advantage.

To be fair, Apple still has time to polish Siri up to par with Google Now, iOS6 isn't out yet.

Or, much more likely, Apple will file a suit against Asus over Google Now in the Nexus 7 and Samsung for the Galaxy Nexus.
