story: Another car accident caused by a GPS in 24 hours. In this case, the device guided two men into a rural road that ended abruptly, causing the car to drop into an artificial lake, killing one of them.

According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, a 37-yo Senegalese man has died when his car fell in a lake near the town of Capilla, Badajoz. According to his companion—who survived the accident—the driver was following the GPS directions when the car fell into the water, sinking in a few minutes.

Apparently, the rural road was dark at night, and the man didn't have time to brake when he discovered that the road ended just in front of them.

"OK, to everyone saying Darwin, or "the guy is stupid"...relax, someone is DEAD, actually had the life snuffed out of them, no longer living or breathing, imagine it's one of your friends and take a deep breath and calm the fuck down.

This one actually seems to have some merit.

1. Night time with no lights on the road, and until I hear that they were driving 50 with the federales on their tail, I am going to assume he was going 15-30.

2. ROAD ENDS INTO LAKE. I mean come the fuck on, no signs, pitch black out, and the road just disa-fucking-pears. Give the guy a little bit of slack that maybe he hit the brakes and the car slid over the edge into the lake. I mean half you fuckers on this site can't drive when it sprinkles out without causing mass havoc and traffic...on the freeway...in the middle of the day time. So chill.

3. Seriously? how the hell does GPS not see a fucking lake from space when they can see my one inch cock while nude sunbathing in my backyard? Fix that shit already. And then come up with a solution to shrinkage. "

You could probably get into a lot of accidents with a GPS in Africa. Like straight into a lion's mouth.

Or Spain. Like into a bull.

I particularly like #3. I dont think GPS sees anything, so why would it see a lake?

Err, I don't think you understand how GPS works.

All the GPS signal is: a clock and an almanac. Most people have no idea how GPS really works.

Yea GPS if you mean the ones up in Space. GPS is also used to refer to the GPS navigation receivers (IE: The GPS units you use you in your car)

The "GPS" in your car (or airplane ) is still just a receiver that uses the time information to calculate a position; then overlay it to a position on a map.

Just because you have a map doesnt mean it is accurate, or updated

Yea but most people do not use GPS to refer to the actually Global Positioning System Satellites commissioned by the US government that flies around in orbit. ;)

GPS is 99% used to refer to the receivers.

Darwin. If you're driving fast enough so that you don't have time to brake and not hit something in front of you at night, you're driving way too fast. They were driving recklessly.

I can't imagine many of the maps are all that updated for less developed regions of the globe. Hell, the maps for rural America are sometimes comically wrong.

And since GPS navigation equipment uses maps - there can be a few issues when the maps are inaccurate.
