A brief update for those following along:
The Hike for Diabetes is coming along well. We are the happy recipients of 180 packages of Top Ramen from the Seattle Mountaineers Club (thanks guys!). Early this week we received 400 Clif bars from Clif Bar in the mail, and 36 pairs of socks from Thorlo. In the last week, I've received a new blood-sugar tester (an Accu-Check Complete) and 800 testing strips; for those of you not versed with diabetic expenses, that's around 2.5 months of supplies - approximately $640 in strips and a $100 tester. Once again, I'd like to announce our thanks for all of the help we've gotten.
We are currently working with GoLite for our final pieces of clothing; wish us well on that. When that's over with, we're left to find an airline for plane tickets, and of course, we're always trying to round up more food supplies. If anyone has hiking food of any sort (Pop Tarts, Snickers Bars, M&M's, GORP, Power Bars) that you'd be willing to donate, please email me. Most of the food supplies are being taken care of individual donors, so every little bit helps.
On to other news, we should have an additional $350 for the ADA coming in this week or next (thanks Gary!
). We should hit the $500 mark before long. I'm also working with a PR rep to try to get more media attention in the northwest area...
It's been a long and arduous road, but worth every second. Thank you all for your support - I'll be thinking about you on the trail.
two months and three days to go,
Rob
