Guys I need some help with this plant question from my brother.

If you were growing a vegetable garden, what variable might affect its net primary production?

My guess would be food source / light source, but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

Edit: Is it this?:

primary net production is directly affected by the amount of seeds planted

I don't know, I got a biology degree but I took NO botany class and I can't remember too much from general biology eight or so years ago. I would think light and carbon dioxide because they are needed for photosynthesis. Perhaps one could argue nitrogen in the soil as well.

Exposure to pests/herbicides, light and dark, nutrients and bacteria in the soil, watering.

well, the "vegetable gardens" they have in Canada consume a LOT of electricity and water, so I'm going to say those are the main ones.

Light, water, soil quality (if there have been an abundance of nitrogen-leaching plants), humidity, radiation amounts

well it depends...

during vegitation light and the specific fertilizer used heavily effect the plant size... you can grow a small vegetable plant that makes just as big of cucumbers or what have you as does a larger plant...

the variable of main 'net production' comes during flowering... during the end of the plants life if it gets enough light/water/nutrients you can expect a higher(read more) production of the fruit/vegetable because its really at the end of the plants life that the 'net production' of said plant comes into effect...

well atleast... thats what i got from my 'botany'( ;) ) research... but basically yes, food-nutrients/light source

Whether or not the soil has been severely salted, except in cases of asparagus.

Guy my cousin said this:

Ideas?
