I got it to work with my voodoo5 in D3d, only problem I had was that the flags were invisable in CTF
from the pulpit website:
I am a bit pressed for time but I was very curious about the beta Direct3D and OpenGL drivers that the makers of Unreal Tournament released a couple of days ago. Particularly its support of High Resolution textures on the game's 2nd CD using DXTC texture compression in Direct3D (in addition to actual high rez S3TC). This means that all (of the latest) cards should be able to use the high rez textures if run in Direct3D.
And so I did something up real quick. This page shows how a Voodoo5 5500 is able to display the high rez textures correctly. I even included some framerates differences.
Like I said, I am a bit pressed for time because of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration but I hope to follow up on this once I have more time.
UPDATE Some of you have emailed me about trouble getting Unreal Tournament to run in Direct3D fullscreen on a Voodoo5 with the beta Direct3D drivers mentioned below (those with DXTC support). A few suggestions :
- enable "Geometry Assist" in your 3dfxTools' Direct3D Advanced Settings (remember to re-boot if you enable this)
- disable "Precaching" in the UnrealTournament.ini file in the relevant [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] section
- make sure "Use3dfx" is set to "False" in UnrealTournament.ini under the same relevant section as above
The above should do the trick. You may want to also try starting up the game in Safe Mode (this option should appear in your Start Menu under the game's folder), choose the option to "Detect 3D Device", then check the "Show All" radio button and choose "Direct3D device", then run the game. I have the settings shown on this page in case you want all the rest of the settings I used. Oh, and perhaps the problem may be that you are using Windows2000 (I'm using Windows98SE). Also, make sure DirectX8 is installed.
