HighPoint RocketRAID 404 / CD/DVD Drive IDE controller question

Ok, while I already have a guess on what the answer is to this question, I am not
hundred percent sure so I will ask.

Right now I have a HighPoint RocketRAID 404 in my system. I had
the system raided up but I lost a drive so as of now its just got
one hard drive connected to it.

Now I am thinking of getting a DVD burner for my system. However
all my IDE controllers from the motherboard are used.
Now I have read that the HP Rocket 133 ATA Controllers only support
hard drives and not ATAPI drives. Now I am just guessing here but
I'll take that to mean I also cannot throw a DVD burner on the RocketRaid.
Is it correct to guess that?

Also if I have to buy an IDE controller card to support an extra ATAPI drive,
which would you suggest. I notice some say they have support for it. Others
say nothing, and yet others say they don't support ATAPI drives.

I would appreciate any help you might provide.

Edit Oh and a quick afterthought, what about SATA Controllers, are there any of those
that might support ATAPI as well.

AFAIK, the Promise and HighPoint RAID cards support only HDs whether in RAID mode or not - they have plain IDE adapters that will support more types of drives. Silicon Image based PATA RAID cards support just about every IDE drive ever made as well as being able to do RAID 0,1,0+1 or JBOD when/if needed, e.g. Syba at dealsonic.com et al. And they are cheap to boot (usu. <$25. shipped).

Edit: Added bold for those that seem to miss important adjectives...

I just scanned all the Promise PATA RAID cards' spec sheets and none mention ATAPI drive support. I'm aware that their non-RAID cards support ATAPI, just as I said in my original message.
. And BTW, I never got a thank you for sourcing those Evercase parts for you (or haven't you read your PM lately?)...

You're wanting ATAPIs in a RAID card? I'd be suprised if you found such a beast. Why not get a normal controller card?
