I am wondering, is this RAID controller that is built in on the Soyo KT400 motherboard a software RAID or hardware RAID, there is a chip on the board. & should I be setting it up through the BIOS for the RAID or should I just be using the software that came with it & do it through Windows XP?
Reason I ask is because when I installed it through the software on Windows XP & then tried to use that RAID 0 for video capturing I did not get great results on the captures.
Thank you

Its a software raid.
Theres a difference between running XP on a raid and running Xp with a raid.
Does the capture software cache the data before a save or save directly.

Youve not left any info for use to work with other then XP and raid.
Your capturing device may not be as fast as your standard boot drive and therefore you wont notice any improvment going to raid.

Hi there,
Thank you for your reply in regards to my RAID 0 question,
My system is a follows:
AthlonXP 1900
KT400 Soyo Dragon Ultra
512MB of PC 3200 memory ( Samsung )
Ti 4600 Geforce4 Visiontek card
60GB WD 7200rpm HD on standart IDE
2x40GB HD 7200rpms ( one is a WD other is IBM ) on RAID 0 using the HighPoint built in on the motherboard
WinTV FM card ( I also have Leadtek win2000xp card but not installed on this box)
LiteOn 32x burner
Toshiba 16x DVD Player
Netgear NIC

Upon activating the RAID in BIOS I installed the software that came with the motherboard for the RAID controller, from there I configured it for RAID 0, everyting went through fine, not a single problem, however when capturing it captures but when playing back it get a studder so the picture jumps or freezes.
I am not running the OS on the RAID, RAID was set up for capturing only & for my Photoshop scratch files.
OS sits on the 60 GB & so do any other apps I have.
The capture software captures real time so it most likely captures directly, it is a software called UIVCR & I use the MJpeg codec to capture which saves it as AVI file for me, the location of that file would be then on the RAID drives.
If you could shine some light on this for me I would really appreciate that
Thank you
