Highlight Text in photoshop?

Its a PDF screenshot that I wanted to use in a presentation but I only want certain words to stand out. If I use the brush tool with a light yellow it covers up the words. Is there a way I can do this? Any info would be great. Thanks everyone.

Change your brush tool's mode (or the "highlight" layer itself) to something other than "Normal."

Multiply will probably work for you. This is all at the top, near where you choose brush size.
