Highlight stays on windows desktop

Hello,

I've had this problem just recently. If I click and drag on my desktop in Windows, it will work fine until about 3 seconds later where the box freezes. I can do this as many times as I want. I didn't change any of the settings but installed some programs. Picture (Yes, I got bored and started 'drawing'.) Any clue on how to fix this minor problem?

PoofyHair,

You might go into the Control Panel, Mouse and check the settings there. You may have to re-install the mouse drivers if you have that kind of installation.

OTOH, the programs you installed may have caused your problem. You could use System Restore to "undo" them one at a time and see the effect. You can undo the "undo" if it has no effect on the result. Keep doing that, one program at time, until you find the culprit.

I've seen this before, nice pic btw.

This happens when Explorer.exe is crashing/crashed. Where are your desktop icons? Does this happen as soon as you start windows, or after it's running for a while.

A good test is to configure msconfig to boot without extra crap.

Start > Run > msconfig

Select 'Diagnostic Startup'. Let Msconfig reboot your PC. If it works in this mode, then something you are running, either a program or a service, is causing this behavior. If not, a windows component or driver is damaged.

Let us know how this works out 🙂
