I bought a CM HAF XB EVO, and found out my AX1200 wont fit in it. According to the manual, a 180mm PS will fit, so I'm looking for suggestions for power supplies under that length. I havent looked at these in awhile, so I'm not sure whats good anymore. I am tentatively looking at the CM V1000, but I'm obviously willing to spend less since I didnt factor in a new 1KW PS with the case. At this point it makes more sense to just return the case, as who spends $200 or more to use a $100 case, but I might be missing a reasonable priced PS that people go to in this scenario.

For a little while I will be switching between 680 SLI and a single 780 Ti, and probably a second 780 Ti in a year or so and maybe a switch to a 6 core i7 overclocked in the 4+Ghz range, so I want as much power as possible so I dont have to buy another PS down the road. Any suggestions? Obviously modular and as quiet as possible would be nice as well.

A quality 850W unit would be fine for a hexacore + 780 ti SLI with mild OC'ing. But 1000W is fine since the price increase versus 850W is pretty minimal.

Here's a good one: Rosewill Capstone 1000-M $160. Like other Capstones, it's a Superflower build, on par with Seasonic in quality (the OEM for the CM V1000). Depth: 180mm, should fit (AX1200 is 200mm).

The V1000 is shorter but also $50 more on newegg... if the Capstone fits, no point buying the V1000. The Capstone actually has longer warranty.

I'm unsure if the EVO is different in this regard from the original version, but I doubt it. You should be able to use that PSU just fine if you simply remove the hot swappable pcb board behind the hot swap bays. You can obviously still use the bays as drive mounts just no hot swap ability.

I thought about that, but I kinda wanted to use the hot swapping bays. Since I'm not in a hurry and already back to using the old case, I will keep looking and see if I can get a deal on something. Plus, I cant find my receipt.

I dunno about the Rosewill. I think I can do better if I wait a sale, but I appreciate the suggestion. I guess I shouldnt expect to find a smaller version of the AX1200. Many of the 1KW 100A power supplies are around 200mm in length.

If you are serious about max wattage, both the Enermax Maxrevo 1500 and the Lepa G2 1600 are 180mm
