I am currently using a Duron 800MHz with my IWILL KK266-R and am thinking of upgrading to a faster (but not top of the line) CPU.

Does anyone know what is the highest speed Thunderbird supported by KK266-R ? Does it support the T-Bird 1.4 GHz ?

Also, my current power supply is 350W ... do I need to get a bigger power supply if I go to the 1.4G T-Bird ?

Thanks for any info !

<EDIT>

My power supply is actually just 300W ... not 350W as mentioned above.

You can get the latest bios Here it adds support for the new XPs, just pick your board from the list. Also, you should be fine with that PSU as long as your using a fairly typical hardware config.

I believe the latest bios adds the 2000+ to the supported list of CPUs.

DAPUNISHER: I have an Antec KS282+PP303X case which actually has just a 300W power supply ... not 350W as I had mentioned earlier.

Do you still think I can use it for a T-Bird 1.4G or an Athlon XP 1700+ or something like that without having to upgrade the PS ? I think I have a fairly typical configuration - 2 HDDs (both 7200RPM), 5 fans, 1 CD-RW, 1 DVD, GeForce3 Ti200.

If I do need to upgrade the PS, what's the minimum I should get keeping in mind some growth potential ?

You should not have any problems running an 1.4ghz T-bird with your Antec 300watt PS.

My old configuration before I upgraded to the Epox 8KHA+ mobo, consist of an 1.33ghz T-bird with 3-120mm fans, 1-80mm fan, 3 HDD (2-7200 RAID, 1-5400), Toshiba DVD, Plextor CDRW, SBLive Live Drive I, GeForce 2 Ultra. Never had a power related problem. A++ stability.

Will be moving my KK266-R mobo into my work machine in the next week with a AMD 750mhz t-bird o/c 1ghz. Maybe I will buy a XP1600+????

RaymondY: Thanks !

Now I have a questions about the cooler ... I am currently using a Volcano II with two fans (one on top blowing down, and one on the side) to cool my Duron 800 @ 1007. Can I use the same cooler with T-Bird 1.4G or with XP 1700+ ? If not, which cooler will you suggest ?

Your VII is probably still superior to the stock cooler that comes with the XP/T-Birds. However, I'll give ya a cooler recommendation just in case. Now, there are definitely better coolers than the 1 I'm recommending but it's still very good based on the price/performance ratio Dynatron DY1206BH-625 COPPER SUPER e-CPU COOLER w/ 6800 RPM Fan

Another cooler would be the Alpha 8045. Have seen them around for $30-$40 without the fan.
