Highest download speed, wireless....

Hi,

I have a Netgear Pre N router and a notebook with an atheros based 108mbps adapter which only works at 54mbps anyway.

The highest download speed that I can achieve is about 1.4mbps which is not even half of what's available.

How can I make it download faster?
 
Avoid Pre N cause most are still buggy. Shut down your FW. Disable encryption. Put the 2nd PC within 10ft (line of sight) of the router and retest using various website. The problem could be coming from a poorly configured download manager.

I suspect your wired connection is okay?
 
don't disable the encryption, it doesn't slow it down.

and PreN work OK with preN router and client, I have seen much better throughput (stream 10Mb/s HD over it at 65 feet and a wall)
