I have a 5900NU flashed to a 5950, so it's bascially a 5950 with 128MB ram.
I get 40-60FPS half the time, and the other half, it stalls to 2-6fps.
I'm guessing it's starting to use the system ram for the textures.

I tried using 1024x768 high quality with 2xAA 2xAF and 1280x1024 medium quality 2AA/2AF with the same results.
Any ideas?
I've done the pk4 extract, and the cache size to 256

The only thing you can probably do is either kill AA, or set quality to medium instead of high.

Dear lord, yes. Turn off AA. Now.

I've heard the pk4 extract actually slows performance for most. I say go back to the original paks.

Do you have 512MB RAM? Everyone elses 128MB cards work fine without going down to 2-6fps.

Runs fine on my overclocked 5900XT (450\736) and an XP 2500+ @ 2.1 at 1024x768, high quality. BTW, HQ turns on 8x AF automatically, so I'd disable that in the NV control panel.

Runs fine on my Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (450/780) at 1024x768 Ultra Quality NoAA...I get around 50.5fps...

That's with an Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.366GHz (206x11.5)...

I don't think you're hitting the limits of your amount of RAM at these settings, I think you just don't have a very powerful Doom 3 card.

I say this because a. I played Doom3 at high quality 11X8 2x8X on my 128MB NU and it was smooth as silk. b. I benched my GT at NU speeds, and it got the same performance as my NU did up to 16X12 2x8X High Q, Only 16X124X8x was better.

I've fixed it...
Turned out that my 5950 mod stressed my ram too much. I clocked the ram back to stock 850MHz, and it ran flawlessly.

You have a plenty powerful D3 card, obviously. Glad you fixed the problem.....

I'm running 1GB of PC 3200 ram and a Sapphire 9800Pro. I run Doom3 @:

1152x864 / med quality / 4xAA / normal sound settings / shadows off. I also have the cach meg set to 256. Everything runs very smooth with no lag as a result of any FPS drop. I wonder if systems with 512 ram ( even with good vid cards ) are having this type of issue with Doom3.
