I rebuilt my eMachines PC and am selling it on ebay...I put a new Athlon XP processor into it well over a year ago, and now I do not remember what I put (2000, 2100, 2200...etc???)
Max FSB for the W1500 with FIC AM35 mobo is 266, and I put the highest processor that I could for that FSB. I THINK it's an XP2000, but not for sure.

Download CPU-Z and run it on that machine. Most likely a 2600+ or 2400+.

Yes, it would work but the CPU would not run in it's designated clockspeed.
e.g. A64 3500+ = 200MHz x 11 = 2.2GHz
if run @ 166MHz
166MHz x 11 = 1826MHz = A64 3000+

I bought an XP2200+ 2 years ago (7/03 to be exact), and it runs at 266 so it should be at least that.

Go to: Start > Control Panel > System
In the General tab of the System popup, you should see your processor listed in the bottom-right corner.

As for the fastest FSB266 CPU, it's technically the Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13 GHz, 256 KB L2). However, that particular model is quite rare, and I'm not sure it was ever shipped to retail outlets. In any case, I'm all but certain you do not have it. The fastest mainstream FSB266 CPU is the Athlon XP 2400+ (2.00 GHz, 256 KB L2).

Frankly, though, I doubt you have even the 2400+. How you can know you bought the fastest FSB266 CPU when you have no idea what it could be?

Also note that, contrary to what someone posted above, the slowest FSB266 XP is the 2500+ (1.83 GHz, 512 KB L2). There is no Athlon XP 2400+ or lower with FSB333. The Sempron 2200+ (1.50 GHz, 256 KB L2) is the slowest FSB333 CPU.

Yes, but that would be counter-productive. The fastest-clocked FSB333 CPU is the Athlon XP 2800+ (2.25 GHz, 256 KB L2), with a multiplier of 13.5. Running it at FSB266 would reduce the clock to 1.80 GHz (Athlon XP 2200+). It would be cheaper and faster just to get the Athlon XP 2400+ (2.00 GHz, 256 KB L2).

CPU Z worked. It's a 2400+, thank you for the help. Going to system only showed the MHz...not the processor #.
