What's the highest CFM fan I can get with just the 3 pin connector, I want to get two of them and hook them to my motherboard so they slow way down when i'm not gaming.
How will they slow way down when not gaming if you have them plugged directly into the mobo headers? If you want to control the fan speeds, you are probably going to need a fanbus of some type. Like the Vantec Nexus.
getting the highest CFM fan with a 3 pin connector and then plugging it into your mobo headers would be an incredibly stupid idea - you'll most likely end up blowing out the headers on the board because they can't take a high load
your best bet is to go with a rheobus if you want high speed fans with easy control
Yeah, high output fans and mobo headers usually don't mix. Some of the better ones come with dual connectors - a three pin to connect the speed sensor, and a 4-pin feed-thru to supply the power.

hmm i need to remember that....so don't run a Tornado off a mobo header? you can run it off the CPU HSF header though, right? because my plan was to use a 92mm tornado on a slk-900a...
