Looking to do and Upgrade on my pc, and I was wondering about the Barton Proceesor. Since Barton and Sempron is what my MOBO can support. It says 3200+ and Higher. I was wonder how a Barton processor does in gaming and is 3200+ the highest and worth over clocking.

What I have now:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughtbred (want to get 3200+ or higher)
1gig PC2100 (want to get 3200 in Dual Channel)
160 WD HDD
Nvidia 6800 128meg

Will a 3200+ and 3200mem in dual channel be good for game.

I am open to suggestions

P.S. I'm on a bugget $300.00 at the most for an upgrade.

Going to a 3200+ Barton won't be a huge improvement.

Start saving up for an A64, new mobo, & new RAM.

I would just oc the sh*t out of that processor till you get a new system. That's what I did until I got my current system. Assuming your ok with that risk.

I don't know the first thing about OC. I would need some help with what I need and what to do. But sounds like a good idea

Just a suggestion check out the f/s forums for a used barton, if your lucky you can get one for 50-55 shipped.

If you decide to make the change to a 939 combo the 3000+ venice overclocks nicely.

A Sempron 3000+ or better. Anything lower or higher will be very good for the cost (and the Semprons aren't too bad, either, the pricing just gets too close to A64s at the high end of them).

the best a64 for the money is the 3000+ venice socket 939 (venice only comes in socket 939)

its around 140ish for retail (3 year warranty from AMD and retail heatsink which is quite good)

and slightly under 120 for oem (no warranty or heatsink, just the chip and the little plastic holder thingey)
