Higher than 1.85vCore on DFI Ultra Infinity?

Hey!

Im getting a new board because I want SATA, I was looking at the Abit NF7-S but after all the problems people have been having with the newer revs, I am going to go with the DFI Ultra Infinity instead.
(Pus it has more features than the NF7-S)

Anyway, i was reading up on the board and found that the highest vCore avail. was 1.85v.

I was wondering if there are any mods (Soft or Hard) to raise the max vCore.

1. of course there's a hardmod to get the vcore above 2.0 :)

2. the max vcore with bios 11/27/03 is 2.0

3. most people don't run more than 1.85 into a barton/xp anyway... so 1.85 would have been enough unless you wanna be hardcore and run 2.0 volts through it...

to verify, Shimmishim is correct, i am running the revB of that exact board now and the bios does allow up to 2.0 vcore.
Just to add, i am also very happy with the baord, have had 0 problems with it, have gotten a friend to buy it and another friend to "upgrade" from an MSI nForce2 Ultra 400 Socket A Mobo K7N2 Delta-ILSR mobo to one of these and absolutely loves it.

i tried running my mobile barton at 1.95v just for fun to see what would happen and it got BLAZING hot within a matter of seconds. i was watching the temps increase in the bios, then i paniced when it hit 50C (cuz i know the core temp would be 10C higher or so).

so, the moral of the story is that you need water or exotic cooling for voltages that high. :)

ehh... not always ;)

i'm actually willing to push this thing up to 1.95 on air with a decent cooler...

i only have an alx800 with a TT smart fan...

it's at 52C's running prime95 @ 1.85 volts and 2.55 ghz...

52C's +/- what? 10C's?

that's still within spec for this chip... not scared :)
and these things are 75 - 100 to replace as compared to 270 for a stinkin' A64 3200+ if i killed one..

50C is not that hot. Lol im running EXTREMELY HOT... (no A/C on right now) I have my regular barton running at 1.8vcore and 3000+ up from 2500+. I get max load temps around 67C. Like i said its extremely hot. Ambient temps for room around 80F tho.

My T-Bred B runs at 47Deg under load at 1.875 volts and 2.0Ghz, and around 36 Idle.

I have a Thermal Integration Dr. Thermal HS, and Mechantronics 53CFM Fan.

Also ahve the Thermal Take Acryllic Fan Ducting Mod.


It's loud as hell tho. (Like 45 dBa).

My 2600+ mobile is overheating for no apparent reason ever since a couple days ago...I had it sitting in a poorly ventilated system, waiting to get my new case back, but it idled at 40C regardless...now it's idling at 52C, and lord knows how much further past 60C it's getting when I'm giving it some decent load

CPU = XP-1700 / T-Bread "B"
MoBo = EPOX 8RDA (not +)
Speed = 2.078ghz (180fsb x 11.5)
vCore = 1.95 volts
Prime95 Stable for 21.5 hours / 0 errors (Stoped test to use PC)
IDLE Temp = 42C
LOAD Temp = 51C (Drops to 49C at times)

Hey Avalon,

My Mobile barton was doin that recently as well.

I think it takes a little longer for the Mobiles to cool of after being under load.

I ran Prime95 in custom mode with 2048 -4096 fft length and ut got to 49 Deg.

Took a long time to cool down to even 42 deg.

Had to shut off PC to get it back to Idel temp of 36 Deg.

I might need better cooling.

What in the world are you talking about need better cooling!?!?!? 42C is very very good. Anything lower than that your gonna need something better than air cooling. (water). Mine is extremely hot. My ambient room temp is 85F tho. So my case is 28C and my processor is 66 idle. Yes mine are extremely extremely hot but depending on your ambient room temp that should be very good temps. (Yes, in case you were wondering, i have the HSF on right and the right amount of thermal grease on and 4 case fans w/ front in back out its all good dunno why everything is so hot)

We have central air and ambient temp is 65deg F.

WinXP BSOD'd me, so i upped the vCore .025volts.

Now my Proc is idling at 49Deg, and my case temp is 39Deg.

I proly nee more case fans (I only have 1 in, 1 out).


I'm gearing up to build this hugly modded all acrylic case so i dont wanna spend the money on more fans rite now.


I'll just take off the side panels and run the thing open, that'll cool it off a bit.

Thanks for the input about my temps not being horrible.

Check this out tho, in this review air cooling is getting about 30idle, and 33Load, i dunno if the volatage could be y the temps are so much lower (1.7v opposed to 1.875v).

Voltage could play a key factor. However if you put to more fans in there case and CPU temp would probably be pretty close to that.

I wish you DFI owners would start a thread posting results, experiance, satisfaction levels and such. I'm happier with shuttle AN35N than Abit Nf7-S's. My first one was great but had a serious ram lock problem would'nt move off 2.9Vcore no matter what. Second one was total hot running unstable crap.. Certinly not worth $107 which they have raised the price to based on old reputation.

Who cares what your temps are???? You guys realize they can be off by 10-15C within even the exact same mobo? Reason is the diode could either be in perfect contact processor and on another board be a couple pico meters away and make this difference.


The temperature diode is not spring loaded so when you insert your processor there is no guarnatee it's making contact wih the processor.. Only way to insure proper contact, and even then it''s spurios, is to bend the diode about 45 degrees from mobo. Then allow the processor to push down the diode on insertion. I read ~50C underload on water and ~65C on air this way.
