I've now decided to hold off for maybe cheaper or higher spec LCD monitors. I'm looking to go 18"

Anyone know when the next range of LCD's is due out. Specs like Less than 20ms Response and more than 600:1 Contrast?

Whos making them and do you have a link to any sites? :D

I didn't see the response time spec on that press release. all it said was "almost twice the response time of any other flat panel monitor on the market." They are comparing it to a 30ms response time but never really say how fast theirs is. "almost twice as fast" could still mean a 20-25ms response time which many high-end LCD's already have. It's a press release so it is probably exaggerating it a bit. Just my thoughts.

Here is the quote from the above link.

With a 12 millisecond rise and 4 millisecond fall time, the CML174 provides one of the best moving images of any LCD computer monitor. While optimized for gaming, animation and multimedia applications, all users could benefit from the improved performance.

Sorry no can do. I would be accused of being biased so I do not to publish public reviews of products. If this product performs as Hitachi states, it will be hot.

:)

Yes, it will be hot if it does have a 16ms response. However, company claims are best taken with a grain of salt. I'll need to see it before I believe it.

Dang, i was totally blind. didn't see that at all. Ok, well, 16ms response time is pretty good. Hope it really is what it claims to be.

FFD is technologies being developed by Mitsubishi, all the other LCD panel manufacturers are working on there own version of FFD.

Hitachi is being tight lipped about the technology, they told me this is due to the patent application process. I do know however that this model does not use a Hitachi panel. Odds are this is why they are being quiet about it.

From what I can get the improvement comes from panel efficiency that switches the LCD crystals faster. It is a known fact that you can make the liquid crystal switch faster simply by spacing the glass substrates closer together. It could be this simple.

Gosharkss,
From Hitachi's website, Hitachi shows being very proud of their own super-ips technology.
Is this one still using their own super-ips?

No, they told me it is not a Hitachi panel, however they will not tell me who is the panel manufacture due to pending patent applications.

Who ever it is needs to hurry up and come out with a 20" panel with 16ms response time, 250 nits. and 600:1 contrast ratio Grrr. I dont want a 17", 20+.

Jim, open one of the new Hitachi's and tell us how the quality of its display compares to other 17" LCDs and then tell us if its response time in rapid text scrolling, mouse movement, game playing or other is as excellent as Hitachi claims.

If so, I am ready to buy a pair. I'll call tomorrow while on the road.

Haha, I've already tried. I think you'll get the same answer he gave me.

If I didn't just buy a Dell 2000FP, I would pick this one up and test for you guys.

I cannot post product reviews in public forums. I believe it is against forum rules and I may be accused of being biased.

I ordered on Friday, and the monitor has been in stock pretty much since then, but still no update on shipment yet. MD states pretty much a 24 hour shipment of in stock items....I e-mailed them to inquire. I was hoping to get it this week, but if it hasn't shipped yet, then I will have to wait :(

If no update by the time I get home on Thursday,I'll call them.

:(
