WTF, for years i thought it was the opposite. So, if my monitor could run over 1280x1024 resolution i could have higher FPS in games?

Anyone wanna explain why?

Perhaps when you up'd the resolution the game set all settings to minimum?

Agreed.

Higher resolutions above your monitors native resolution degrade performance. High resolution the harder a video card has to work to render/shade/etc...

I keep reading @ different places it basically makes the GPU the bottleneck and takes the bottleneck off the cpu. Something like that. For say some people get lower fps @ 1024x768 and higher at 1360x1020

Huh ?

When you have a higher resolution more pixels need to be displayed, which takes more processing power. So if all things are equal and you up the resolution, you will get LESS frames per second.

This is really a thread for the Videocards and Graphics forum though, so if you still don't understand, let me know and I'll move it to the Videocards and Graphics forum.

A bottleneck is a limit. At low res, your CPU limits because your GPU eats the game alive. At high resolutions, it doesn't matter because now your GPU is choking.

The CPU bottleneck will always be higher than the GPU bottleneck.

Take for example, UT2004. It's a less demanding game that's 4 years old so at 1024x768, your bottleneck will be the CPU nd you may be sapped at around 200FPS. Now up the resolution to 2560x1600 and your bottleneck will be the GPU and because of that, your total FPS will be only about 100.
