Higher ports

I used to use port 8001 with my ftp. However, since coming home and getting back on Time Warner, port 8001 won't work anymore. When I was at school, my buddy on TWCable couldn't access my site either after a while, for no apparant reason.

I ran the ftp last summer with the same port, same provider and no problems. I am behind a Netgear RT314 router, which is setup properly (I think). It was the same setup I had saved for last summer, when it worked.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Peace,

Are you running the server in passive mode? It sounds like you probably are not, so make sure that your friend is not trying to connect in Passive mode.

No, I'm not, and they say they aren't either. It's for ALL connections though, passive or not. However, it works perfectly on port 21.

Hmm. Then maybe Time Warner has implemented some sort of software that regulates port 8001. Are you able to make it work on any other ports than 21?

Nope, only port 21 so far. I'm going to try some other things later. I can access it from my LAN though on any port of course. It's the service, not the router. Same prob w/the router gone.
