Higher ping my computer vs. networked computer in games

My computer has a higher ping when I play games like Half-Life: Day of Defeat then my roommate's computer in the room across the hall. What's up with that? It's around 96 for him, bout 200+ for me. I am doing ICS with the networked computer next to me, which could be one of the reasons. However, I USED to be on par with him with ping after a fresh XP install. Could it be a software issue? Any software to find and fix?

Try swapping your cable with your roommates and see if it affects his latency. Might be a freak cable with bad termination or split pairs. Something, that may not show up too many issues with a short cable run.
