Higher Idle temps/power consumption when switching to 75hz

Well here is my problem, I'm currently on a LG IPS235V, this monitor is officially rated for 60hz at 1080p.

However, I found it stable and without frame skipping when running it at 75hz via CRU. The problem is, my 7950 wont go to their lowest pstate after that, getting stuck at 500/1250/0.95v even at idle, resulting in a raise in temps (45c vs the normal 35c idle) and an increase in power consumption.

Does anyone has ran into this issue too? I really really love playing at 75hz, makes up for a better experience in all my games but this bug really irks me. So if anyone has come with a solution to this problem, would be nice to hear it!

The very first mantle enabled drivers, catalyst says 14.2 but I think there was a 14.1 beta before that already with mantle.

Anyhow, tried a few different ones a while ago with no avail. Seems like one of those bugs that are so innocuous no one bothers to fix. But it would be awesome to have both 75hz and my UVD pstate back.

My Sapphire 7970 GHZ that did that when I used an .inf to override the EDID on my NEC monitor. Didn't matter what drivers I used. It doesn't happen on my R9 290.

You think this is related to GCN 1.0 itself? Bummer, really hoped it was a software thing.

In nvidia control panel you can force desktop to run at 60hz. If AMD does that too it might fix it.

While it certainly is by design, you could force it by making a custom BIOS with VBE:

The 2nd state (some cards have four states, but in any case it's the 501/1250 one you want to alter).

Changing that to 300/150 should work, but
  1. the clock was by design so you might get some flickering on the desktop
  2. flashing custom BIOS's might void your warranty

Actually, it might even be possible to go lower than 300/150 but AFAIK that's only possible with BIOS editing which carries the risk (although a lot of 7950s have dual BIOS) of no video at all until you flash the old BIOS back.

I have used VBE to remove the dreadful boost out of my card, but as your image shows, you cant alter the vcore of neither of those 2 pstates.. Also, i dont want to lose my 500\1250 pstate, i just dont want to use it when my pc is totally idle.

Having a 60 hz on desktop option would be nice, but i dont think it would play nice with bf4, which cant minimize on alt tab but instead goes to a lower res in windowed mode.
