I just sold my z-680s to a friend and am now looking for a replacement. I use them all the time and wouldn't mind stepping up to the next level, but I don't know what that would be. I know the 5500 replaced the 680s and that klipsh has the 5.1 Ultras, but I was looking for the level after that if it isn't too expensive.

I game a lot and listen to a lot of music on my computer. I don't care to pay more for a better set if it is worth it, because I paid more than I wanted for my 680s and in the 2.5 years I owned them I never did regret it.

That's virtually the ceiling for PC multimedia systems, though I believe Creative's 7.1 Gigaworks set may outshine them both (in power and options, anyway - no idea about sound quality). You may have to cross into home theater and connect that to your PC.

I was afraid of that. I knew I hadn't heard of anything "bigger" out there but, I don't have my ear to the ground of the audio speaker world either.

I think the home audio world is more than I would be willing to pay.

Thanks for the info and the gigaworks recommendation, I'll check them out.

if you know where to shop you can get a home theatre setup thats far superior with music than PC speakers for really not much more, in fact possibly even the same price...

what you do is look for shops/e-tailers trying to shift older models of speakers/surround amps from their warehouses.......most hifi companies renew their lines every 2 years when it comes to bulk production stuff.......

ones to watch out for are Yamaha models often being flogged off cheap in regards to receiver/amps, they update their models quite furiously time wise.
speakers i cant comment on as in the US you guys have lots of different companies.....
in the UK we have a smaller range of manufacturers, however they produce some stunning equipment for the price.......ones too look out for tho if u can find them are Mission (produce lots of models so older ones go cheap quite quick, bloody fantastic sound tho for the money) Wharfedale, um, others, lol, memorys getting worse these days..lol

There are several good options for not too much in the entry level HT range.

A rocket tykes bundle is not too much more. An Onkyo HTIB is an even more affordable option.

If you want an even better system on a budget, you could start with just a pair of stereo speakers and a receiver... adding parts later as funds become available for a full 5.1 set.

The sky is the limit with HT speakers, but there are some great budget options too.

I'll 2nd the rec for an Onkyo HTIB they tend to sound better than any "PC" based speaker system if you buy a decent one.

Yoyo knows his stuff. Hes the moron who spent more on his audio than on his projection system for his home theater.
