High watercooled temps

I recently put togeater a water cooled system that contains the following:

Radio Shack 120mm fan that sucks air through the radiator
A heater core radiator pulled from a car (details later)
D-Tek custom 158gph pump
Maze 3 waterblock
Athlon XP 1800+ at stock speeds
EpoX 8KHA+

While looking in the BIOS waiting for the temps to become stable, they end up at around 43c, and I havn't tried full load yet. The ambient temperature is 91F, with a 5F degree drop across the radiator. The waterblock is on pretty tight. Any ideas?

get a stronger rad fanand maybe another one, and stronger pump

this is what i have, 2 nidec beta V fans one pull, one push over rad, 71cfm per fan. that gets true air flow over rad.

i have a a black ice extreme rev2

DD maze 3, with as3
and a danner 317gph pump

i am using an agoia xp1600+ oced to 166X10.5 (2100+ specs w/ 166fsb) epox8k3a

load temps 37, idle temp 32-33

and these are TRUE core temps, not thermal diode crap.

the coolant is 1gallon distilled water to 1 4 oz thingy of Water wetter, and a bit of 50/50 antifreeze for sterility.

not knowing any other info......these seem like normal temps.........what is your case like....??.....how is air flow??.....how many fans ????

many other things affect temps......

Watercooling all depends on the ambient temps. If the numbers you are giving us are correct, then it seems like there isn't anything wrong. 91F is roughly 32C and usually cpu temps are between 10-15C above ambient so 42C isn't that bad of a temp. Other than that, I would suggest that you replace the fan with a higher cfm fan and adding a shroud.

Thanks for the info guys, here are my questions/answers.

Dannybin: Whats your ambient temp?

Panhead: No fans are running at the moment, would having one sucking in and one blowing out help?

Laststop: Thanks for the info.

hey i sold you that pump a month or so back, if you want themost out of that pump, i'd suggest a different block, the DD mas3 is a high flow rate block, the gemini (can't seem to remeber where i saw it) will work best with your setup at 158gph

Okay, thanks again. The tubes I have going to and from the block are pretty long for the short distance it has to travel. Would shortening them help?

Yes, most definately. Your pump is a little on the weak side and probably doesn't have that high of pump lift, so it would be wise to make all plumbing as short as possible. I use a 350gph Magdrive pump on my Maze3 and find that it works much better with a pump that would otherwise seem like overkill.

Sorry if I'm resurrecting this thread but I have 1 more question. Would it be safe to add antifreeze with distilled water to this pump?

Most definately, remember that antifreeze was designed to be used in automotive cooling systems, which have plastic\rubber\metal components. Ethelene glycol is pretty much safe for use on anything but there are two things to watch out for if you spill the stuff:

1.) Spilled antifreeze causes paint to peel off in a matter of seconds.

2.) Antifreeze can leave bad stains on fabric and wood

3.) It's highly toxic

Just be careful with it and you'll be okay. There is also a different kind of antifreeze which you can find at auto parts stores which is a fairly new product and is supposed to be non-toxic. You might want to look into that if you have pets or younger family members.
