My brother in law has an old R4 alienware PC, and it's having stability issues atm. I have run stress tests on it for hours on end, and it never fails. But if you game for a few hours, it will blue screen.

I installed CPUz and just happened to notice the Core voltage of his I7-3820 was 1.376. Could this oddly high voltage @ stock speeds be causing a stability problem?

I have it overclocked atm, and just finished a 5 hour Aida64 stress test. No problems.

Alienware PC motherboards are all terrible. It's probably auto overvolting in case you want to overclock it a bit.

Sounds like a video card problem if gaming causes it.

The only two things I've ever seen cause BSODs are system RAM, and it's by far the primary reason, and sometimes video card drivers.

Maybe, but why does it pass stress tests? I have had aida64 and valley run for hours.

At the same time? If not, I agree with myocardia.

Been overclocking since the 90's. It's common for me to run Linpack (or IBT) for 30 or more iterations at 100 percent of currently available RAM and see no issues. I'll run furmark for two hours and see no issues, but BAM! Start my favorite game and Crash to Desktop!

So now I figure that IBT tests CPU, FURMARK stresses GPU and BOTH at the same time tells me if I'm stable at my clock speed.

Individually, but aida64 supposedly tests memory, CPU, and GPU.

I replaced the memory with another set I had lying around when I did the OC. Old memory + OC has been running stable for past few days. But the problem is so intermittent that it's hard to say it's fixed.

I appreciate the help guys, and I will let you know if anything happens.
