High temps!

Hi all,

I finally built my new system:

e6300, gigabyte S3, 1 gig of Transcend 667MHz JetRam, BFG 7600GT OC and an Antec TP 2.0 480W (trueblue) PSU.

First off, my cpu idles at about 54C and under load it goes upto 65C!! (Prime95 stable for 24 hours though)

And since I just couldn't sit still, I tried my hand at OC'ing it and got it upto 2.33 GHz (333x7 and at stock VCore) and ran Prime 95 and it was still stable for 24 hours. (56-57C at idle and 66-67C at full load)

I was quite surprised to see that there was not much of a difference between stock temps and OC temps! I have one 80mm fan in the side of the case blowing air in and one at the back of the case blowing air out. I'm planning to get the CoolerMaster mini Aquagate R80 in a week or so.

Anyways, from reading many posts here and elsewhere I already know my temps are way too high but I was wondering about how I am Prime95 stable with such temps. Has anyone else faced this situation? I was always under the impression that Prime95 would crash a system that was running too hot! Hopefully things will cool down once I get the Aquagate in place! I will keep you all updated.

In the meantime I also want to add that this is my first EVER build and I would never have gotten off the starting block if it wasn't for this forum and the helpful comments that I received from some of you! This forum has been a real eye-opener in more ways than one! Thanks a bunch!

ps: I'm from India, where temperatures are normally quite high (about 30-32C now, in winter!) and my system runs in a non-air conditioned room. Just thought I'd put that bit of info out there as well!

I dont think temperatures really affect stability, unless maybe they are extreem temps like 70*C and up.

I try not to go above 60*C

What case are you using? Getting a good-cooling case can reduce your temp a lot.

High ambient temps are going to put a damper on your cooling ability that's for sure.

If you are 24hr prime stable on both cores, then you should be fine. Those temps COULD be misreported. What are you measuring them with? I believe CoreTemp is one of the most accurate programs for the actual CPU temp.

The case is a fairly simple one...nothing fancy about it..and I'm using CoreTemp to measure my temps as well as Intel's TAT. CoreTemp actually gives me a reading that is invariably at least a degree below the TAT reading. And I was Prime95 stable on both cores...Like I said, I will post an update after I get in the Aquagate...

Ok, so I finally got the Coolermaster mini Aquagate r80 installed today...and my temps have fallen from 57C idle to 42-44C idle!!! (The idle temp of 54 in the original post was with the case open, it climbed upto 57-58C with the case closed). I had the Aquagate installed in the shop where I bought it and in the workshop there which was air conditioned, the idle temp was 33C. That was a straight 25C temp drop!! I was fairly surprised to say the least. At home though, I'm idling at 42-44C which is a 15C drop anyways. Never realized that ambient temps would make such a difference.

As an aside, the only reason I went on for the Aquagate was because the only other option available to me was a Coolermaster HyperX air cooler and I figured I would spend a little bit more (got a good deal on the Aqua) and go in for something that sounded more effective. Aigomorla, if you're reading this, I appreciate your input on my last post but unfortunately none of the systems you mentioned are available where I live.

The system was quite a pain to install and on my board, the Gigabyte S3, one capacitor had to be 'leaned' to one side to make sure the waterblock was sitting properly and the fan can be a wee bit noisy but I'm willing to put up with that for the temp drops I'm seeing! All in all, I'm one happy camper for now!
