High temps

so i got a scythe shogun heatlane cuz i read several independant reviews stating it was the most powerful hs/fan at the moment. paid 59 ?. anyway i even had to take my motherboard out of the case cuz the thing gets screwed on the mobo. now i did use arctic silver 5 as usually (didnt do anything different small bit in the middle..) but my temps are horrible! it does like 38-40°c idle and like up to 44° under load. im very dissappointed. help/ suggestions very appreciated. thanks in advance.

oh maybe i should have included that im running a 3500+ winchester on a a8n32-sli deluxe and dont overclock at all. im really lost here. help me!

38-40C is a reasonable idle temperature although higher than most people here would like at stock speed/voltage.

44C load compared to 38-40C idle is a 4-6C delta.... extremely good.

59 euros is around £40 (GBP, my money) give or take the odd penny. That would pick me up an XP90 and leave £10 for a fan. It does seem expensive but your temperatures look ok.

A few things to consider:
1) BIOS revision. Some BIOS versions will report higher temperatures.

2) Ambient temperature. Euro's indicate Europe, if you live in Norway... you may have low ambient temperatures and your CPU temperatures may be of some concern. If you live in sunny Spain, its warm there so your Shogun might be doing an amazing job.

3) Case temperature and airflow. If you have a hot case, you can only do so much for CPU temperatures.

I also have the a8n32-sli, it seems it reports high temperature. I only swapped mobo and temperature jumped of 10C (26 to 36) at idle. It's possible that the latest bios version of the a8n32 (0705) gives higher temperature reading then actual temperature. But, I think it's normal that the overall temperature is higher with the a8n32 due to heatpipe and heatsink relatively close to cpu.

i live in germany my appartment is at like 22-25°c. bios version is the 703 i think. im alil relieved now. hope its just the bios claiming wrong temps 🙂

You could be right...

But at that level of cooling....
whether it be the Shogun or the Ninja or the XP120 or the XP90copper or the SI 120 or even the Zalman 9500 they all fall within a few degrees celcius of each other.

well im upset about the high idle temp. in case the next bios fixes that ill be alright. the installation is a pain if you got a p180 and have to take the motherboard out of the case (with a lian li case it would be less of a hassle, removable motherboard mounting thingy...) just to look at your cpu or renew your as5. that and the price but it would be worth it if i got decent temps. ill post new temps as soon as asus offers a newer bios than 703. well an official release i dont do betas.

well the one good thing i can say is that the temps dont change much as i take rpm away and when i run it at like 1000rpm i cannot hear the cpu fan at all.

BAH this is crappy. seems as if a guy at antec screwed up. since the p180 manual said the rear fan and the rear top fan are exhausts i didnt bother to check. but the top one was an intake. now thati turned it around my temps droped by 6°. annoying
