I just built a new system and am getting higher then expected temps. With a room temp of around 27C I am seeing chassis at 38c and the CPU at 45C (1.4 with Alpha 8045 with 32cfm fan). The case is a mid with two intake 80's at 31cfm each, and exhaust 90 at 40cfm.

The motherboard is the MSI k7t266 Pro2.

Any ideas....

The case is a Lian-li PC-68 with the two stock ADDA fans in front. I have a 120 on order to replace them with but I find it hard to believe the case is running that hot. The temp is with PcAlert III which came with the board and the BIOS reports similiar readings. I was wondering if the MSI is giving me a false reading for the case temp or is it measureing something else like chipset temperature?

hmmm, that's odd, that case should supply sufficient airflow, how about thermal paste/grease too much, not enough, none?
it could be your motherboard reading high though, i'm not sure about MSI boards

EDIT: oh, what cooler are you using?

Well it was a motherboard issue. I was also getting some strange behavior where the rpms reported and then all of a sudden nothing was there. Turns out there is a problem with this board not reporting low rpm values. Took a look at the most current bios and the problems that it fixed were not related to mine. With people posting problems with the lastest ver I was leary to upgrade but went ahead and my cpu temps are now reported as 38C vs the 48C previous. System temp got a little better and is down to 34C. I need to find out what that is really reporting for. Hope it is the chipset temp.

Thanks for the help.

As far as the HSF I have the Alpha 8045 with the enermax manually adjustable fan set at middle position which now that the temps are being reported correctly I am very happy with.

I'm willing to bet at least part of the problem is its giving you false readings. If the case temp really is 38 C, then I find it hard to believe that the CPU temp is only 7 C higher. However, I'm willing to bet that the new fan will show you an improvement; Adda fans are meant to be quiet, not really that powerful.

EDIT; ahh, you seem to have replied already. glad to hear it was a mobo issue.
