I am trying to decide which video card to get for around a $200-240 price range.

My plan has been to get a 9800 Pro.

From what I understand I should stick with the ATI brand (not a brand like Sapphire or MSI), is this a good strategy?

My real question: I found the High Tech 9800 Pro 128mb Excaluber IceQ and I was wondering if this is a good card compared to a ATI 9800 Pro 128mb?

It has really good reviews on newegg, but you guys dont always agree with the reviews.

Thanks,

Justin

In terms of speed at stock, they're all the same. That HIS card has a better cooler than a stock 9800Pro (it's "Excalibur", BTW, not "Excaluber"). You might want to check on the warranty; some OEMs only have a 1-year warranty (ATI has 3 years). Of course, if you're overclocking, that goes right out the window anyway.

I would get whatever brand fits your fancy.

based on:

looks
price
availability

genuine ATi makes no difference.. there is no genuine nVidia video cards, everyone who wants a 6800GT has to buy a brand that wasn't made directly by nVidia, you can do the same with ATi.

The heatsink on there is just a VGA Silencer Ver 3. Search google for it's review.
I have one and it's much quieter than the stock fan, while cooling the card much better.

As far as flashing the BIOS and overclocking to XT speeds or so, it would be a better investment than a regular 9800 Pro.

Right?

From what I have heard, the 9800 Pro (considering it is a 256bit not a 128bit) is better than a 6600gt. Feel free to talk me into the 6600.

If I were buying new I would go for the 6600GT. If I was buying used (which is what I always do) I would go for a 9800pro from the fs/ft fourms.
