At around the 2000 Euro price point, which would be the better choice for a general purpose server in terms of raw performance: A Threadripper 3970x or an Epyc 7413?

The additional PCIe lanes of the Epyc platform would be great for expandability, but CPU performance is the number 1 priority. Can the newer 7413 still outperform a 3970x despite having a 180 W vs 280 W TDP?

Thanks for the replies, after further consideration I've decided to trust AMD's Zen 3 R&D and go with the Epyc. I can't even imagine what kind of beasts Zen 3 Threadrippers will be once they hit the market!

This is general purpose server, not Cinebench. Epyc also has 8 channel memory. It deserves nothing less imo.

We are also getting Zen 3 Threadripper soon-ish, so if you wait, you can have the best of both worlds.
