I hope this is the right forum for this question. Been looking at several high speed CD duplication machines for the Studio, and I was wondering if anyone knew...is it possible to build one? Either by imaging the source to a HD and then having it simultaneously burn to say 4 discs at once, or 8, 10 etc. or having it copy from the source disc in the same manner.
Anyone know if this has or can be done for less cost than the hefty price tags for the commercial ones?

Thanks

Yeah, it could. Get a nice cheap server case, with as many 5.25 bays as possible, buy cheap SCSI CD drives, set one up as master, install linux, write a script to copy the master to each of the others, repeat. The question is whether or not it would be cheaper/better than the comercial ones. I'd go with the comercial option myself.

Hmm...Interesting. Thanks Tick, I'll check into that. I know nothing about Linux at all. Is it difficult to learn, or work with? Not new to computers by any means, just have never worked with Linux.

Nah. If you've learned Windows, you can learn linux. Further, if all you want to do is duplicate CD's, you should be able to figure out the neccisary things fairly easily. Also, their is the nice thing about it being free.

You might be better off buying one off of ebay
You can get the whole unit for around 900 for an 11 target and 600 for a 7 target

If you are set on building it just buy one of the controllers that can be found on ebay
like this one here
