Link talks some about new 16GB unregistered DDR3 sticks which are currently sampled and ready for ramping up for production.
For what ever reason these 16GB sticks wont work with any recent intel chips but will work with Amd.
I can also see a reason why Intel could block these 16GB sticks on all but Xeons.
So at this late date will we ever see fast 16GB DDR3 sticks.

The DDR3 specs call for support of 8Gbit packages but Intel didn't implement it for whatever reason. This is not about market segmentation, it is about Intel not implementing the specs because they didn't anticipate 8Gbit memory modules being released.

Besides, don't Intel motherboards always support a maximum of 8 times however many RAM slots they have? Unless, I should think, they are motherboard meant for CPUs that can handle the 16GB DIMMs.
