What book(s) did you have to read?

I have to read "The Eyre Affair," by Jasper Fforde. I don't quite understand the logic behind forcing students to read a book that in no way is a classic or something I will remember even one MONTH later.

Well, if you don't remember it one month later, then that seems like a personal problem.
On the other hand, if you don't come away as bettering yourself after reading the book, then that could be a personal problem again, or a problem with how the lesson regarding the book was set up. The book may not be the actual focus of the lesson, rather a tool to help teach what ever class requires it.

Think about physics class, for example. You learn a lot of physics concepts and such, but in order to do any of the quantitative problems, you need to know math. Its not a math class, but you use the math as a tool to solve the physics problem.
