Valparaiso, IN, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Eight Valparaiso, Ind., high school students were injured Wednesday when a fellow student pulled two knives and began slashing at them.
"At this time, we've got a number of students who have been injured," Valparaiso police spokesman Michael Grennes told the Munster Times.
There was no warning of the attack, which happened in a classroom as the school day began.
Hospital spokeswoman Jeni Bell said the students suffered severe lacerations and one suffered a hip injury, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The unidentified suspect is in police custody in Valparaiso, which is 20 miles southeast of Gary, Ind.
The school was placed on lock-down status, meaning parents who wanted to remove their terrified children were denied access.
