A friend of mine from the track team competed in the New Balance Maine Distance Festival and won the mile in 4 minutes and 15.24 seconds, setting a new record.

You can see a pictar of him here: Ben True is in the middle

They don't have the article online, but mebbe they will later.

Ben goes to my school and will be a senior next year (me a junior). We run track together and run together on and off. Still he's so much faster then me even though he doesn't try to hard in practice. I can only barely break 5 mins. :D oh well

Very happy for Ben tho! Quite amazing. There were people from colleges (one from Stanford) here as well trying to qualify for stuff!

6:35 when I was 14-15..did it again when I was 18..I suppose if I ran regularly, I could break 6..ah well.

I did track too, but with a variety of events. Too bad I sucked at most of them. Except for jumps.

Triple Jump: 41' 6"
Long Jump: 18' 5"
400: 53 seconds
Mile: 5:25

Wow, sustained 180 mph for 20 seconds? Hopefully not in a car on a road but either way, nice.

The sad thing is that I couldn't do a half mile in 4:15 right now. In my defense, I sprained my foot almost three months ago and am just now not limping regularly. :)

Amazing. Fastest time I remember for me was a 9 minute 1.5 mile.

His nick gives away how he did it. Let's just say that he could have done it in 18 seconds if he wanted to.

Training for the state wrestling meet my senior year, I ran a fast mile to warm up and finished in 5:35, a personal best at the time. Coach gave me 30 secs. to rest and made me run another, which unbelieveably I finished in 5:12, much to his and my own amazement. I forever advocate running before running to warm up now. I'm convinced that if I had trained for running rather than wrestling, that I could have been pretty good at track.

ohhhh .. I thought it was 4 hours and 15 minutes ... I was about to say ... I can do that ... heh

I can do a quarter mile in 4 minutes :)

Congrats to your friend and to yourself ... a 5 minute mile is WAY better than i cound ever achieve, even when I was swimming 6000 yards per day and doing weight training 2 to 3 days per week.

Fastest mile I ever ran was a 4:37 in a workout. I wish it had been on flat ground because I might have broken 4:25.
